Pinterest

Until last week, I had never heard of Pinterest. According to their web site, “Pinterest is a virtual inboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.” This weekend I setup my account and started to see what Pinterest has to offer.

Pinterest is basically a very visual, social bookmarking web site. When you discover a web site or picture that you like, you can “pin” or save it to your own board. For example, you might find a recipe for chicken that you like. You can “pin” the chicken recipe to your own “Favorite Recipes” board. You can create boards for anything you wish, such as “Places to Visit” or “Cool Gadgets” or “Ideas for Class”. You can see other boards and saved “pins” by other people and save them to your own collection of boards

Pinterest is excellent for finding and sharing speech therapy and other educational resources. Many therapists, teachers and parents are already on there pinning (or saving) their favorite web sites and materials. Since all the pins are displayed with a picture, it makes it easy and enjoyable to find new and useful resources.

Pinterest is by invite only. I signed up for an invite early last week and a few days later, I got the email to join. Have fun pinning!
